The first SOCAR Energy Switzerland charging stations at a motorway service station came into operation last Friday at the Knutwil Nord and Süd services on the A2. Over the last few months, the Knutwil services have been undergoing renovation and improvement by the Federal Roads Office. As part of these works, SOCAR has installed the latest high-performance fast charging stations in both directions. Knutwil in the Canton of Lucerne is the first of 20 service stations SOCAR will be equipping for electromobility over the coming years across Switzerland.
Last year, SOCAR was the only filling station operator to be awarded one of the five coveted concession packages put out to tender by the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO), each to connect 20 motorway service stations for the first time. This multi-year commitment and SOCAR’s associated experience in pioneering electric and other drive technologies make the company a reliable and expert partner.
High-performance charging stations
Both directions in Knutwil will offer two charging stations each, fitted with standard connector types (CCS with 150 kilowatt charging capacity, CHAdeMO, AC). The charging stations installed are Hyperchargers, made by Alpitronic of Bolzano, South Tyrol. The highly integrated system solution offers excellent performance, is suitable for modular expansion if needed and comes in a compact, attractive design. The electricity comes from renewable sources and is supplied by regional utility CKW.
With seven fast charging stations at its eleven motorway service stations, SOCAR has been operating the largest network on Swiss motorways for several years. Service stations will now gradually be added on major transport axes to complement the existing fast charging network. Eggberg and Teufengraben services, both on the A2 in the Canton of Solothurn, are expected to come into operation in the fourth quarter of this year. The remaining 16 service stations will follow thereafter.
Further strengthening of position as a prudent mobility provider
By expanding electromobility, SOCAR is adding to its fuel offering by making a targeted investment in the mobility of the future. Customers benefit from increasingly integrated supply and planning security. A high-performance network of charging stations along motorways is essential if climate-friendly electromobility is to become even more accepted and attractive in Switzerland. At the same time, SOCAR is also committed to other pioneering drive technologies such as hydrogen mobility. Customers can be confident that in SOCAR, they have an open-minded, reliable mobility partner focused on their needs.
